Digital Waveshape Descriptions

Digital Waveshape Descriptions
« on: November 16, 2015, 08:22:55 PM »
Here is an invaluable list of the Evolver’s digital waveshapes, with abbreviated descriptions of each one.  I've gathered it together from two or three different sources.  Unfortunately, I’ve never found a key to each abbreviation.

As the manual says,

“Waveshapes 1-95 correspond to ROM (preset) Waveshapes 32–126 in the Prophet-VS. Waveshapes 97–128 are user programmable via the software editor. In the VS, the user waves were 0-31, and wave 127 was noise, which is not included because the Poly Evolver has a separate noise generator. Wave 96 has a Waveshape that is unique to Evolver in place of the VS noise. Wave 95 (126 on the VS) is a “blank” wave, which can give some options while sequencing waves. The Poly Evolver ships with waves 97–128 the same as 1-32."

Thanks for the info. Too bad these names don't appear on the LCD of the MEK, there's plenty of room still enough for abbreviations at least.
DSI: PRO2, evolver keyboard, ensoniq: VFX-SD, Roland: V-Synth, JD-XA, TB-3, Clavia: nord wave, Kurzweil: PC361, Arturia: microBrute, KORG 800DV, monotribe, monotron, monotron DUO, kaossilator 2, MakeNoise 0-Coast, lots of iOS/Mac soft-instruments
Roland A-50, KMI QuNexus
Logic Pro, KORG SQ-1

The unfortunate thing is that I couldn't find a key to the abbreviations.   I've tried to spell out the most obvious acronyms, but some are still baffling.   It would have made a helpful appendix to the Evolver manuals.

If anyone has the answers, it would probably be someone from the old EX5Tech Forum, but that forum is now dead, and apparently even off-line.  It held a treasury of information from the first days of the Evolvers and Prophet 08.  It's a terrible loss to DSI fans.  I'm glad I was able to snatch up this information in time.

I tell you, these people that delete information!

I see.
Didn't know about such forum existed, should have known since I've been using many synths for decades, including evolver Keyboard and old prophet-5.
Thanks for letting me know the past history.

Given that its the Prophet VS wave shapes there ought to be Prophet VS information out there on the net that could be useful to make an even better list. Still its very useful in its current state.

Yes, that's true, Dslsynth, but I've never come across such a list.  I presume the Evolver list was passed along directly from the VS, with a few changes.

What was fascinating about the EX5Tech Forum was that it had the initial thoughts and reactions of well-informed persons to the Evolvers as they first appeared, and the same for the Prophet '08.  Pardon the nostalgia, but it was interesting to see the excitement in 2007 when the rumors of a new Dave Smith eight-voice DCO synth first started.
